Paint Box small version

I finished the Paint Box small version  and it takes about 8 days to finish .

30 blocks of the same size

cutting takes about 8 hours in 3 days
although I enjoy piecing more.

I can never stop taking pictures from time to time .

I quilted free motions but just not too much because I love the fluffy feeling for baby quilts instead of stiff looks and feelings that ended up in this large quilt.

Paint box finish

Finally, I finished my Paint box , actually the picture of the original block is not there anymore after the update.

I did this project with Rawya who finished her quilt on time, and you can see her  beautiful quilt here .

Ok, I was late about month or so  for some reasons, everybody has reasons so you don't need to know about it.

Then time came to find that the measure of the quilt is not enough for my bed , so I add 20 blocks more , and I add white sashing with cornerstones 2.5 " each .

Next problem is the quilting procedure  itself is not easy to me with large quilt, and I need it to cover king size bed .
So I found this tute regarding a technique  called quilt as you go . I divided my quilt into five sections ( maybe two was enough).

I used the" bondaweb" here to glue the three layers together, I added small pieces here and there especially at the edges and used iron to fix it in place, and it was great idea.

I added  the patting , bondaweb and then ironing . I added a lot of safety pins, too.

I quilted each section with one inch away from the edges where I should section.

When all section are quilted free motion as you see,

I gathered the faces together without catching the patting or the backing .

I cut all the axes patting just to join each other not overlapping, and run over them with  ladder stitches by hand.

Then, I cut the backing, so one side will overlap the next one and bigger about one inch, then I closed all the wounds

finally I added my name, starting, ending dates and the name of the quilt on an extra block.

 No No not finished yet

I added another border, YES after all this quilting, I am crazy making large enough to cover the sides of the bed .

my quilt measures 99" * 83"

 Finally

My neighbour loved the back too much !!!!

Visualizing contrast

When I mention " Tomorrow I will start to fix sashing in between" in the previous post I was totally wrong.
Still I have to collect the background fabric, measure, cut and then add to the block . It's long way than tomorrow .

I spent the whole morning check the colors value whether dark, medium or light which is what the book call it  visualizing contrast .

One way is to look through red cellophane or use a reducing tool like door peephole .
Or making black and white photocopy which I did

This is the last version of dark, medium and lights blocks of my paint box

Paint box / Week four

Here is my blocks for this week, although I did not finish all 10 blocks, but I am not too far.

I'll be going to the desert today, so I took an early shot for the ready 8 blocks of paint box in advance .

"A" for Apple that I ate 3 of them beside other fruits and vegetables as d toxic plan day two.

Let's see my friend Rawya did this week .

Cutting=blocks+MESS!!

What a mess!!!   especially I am wearing dark blue trousers

That's why many ladies you see on the net wear an apron to prevent all the mess .

After squaring look at the mat

So I brought a piece of tape and taped here and there and ta DA

Happy, clean ending ,very easy right ?

A TIP

To clean any carpet full of threads, hair or just to give it a fresh look use the same tape tip and it will turn to a new one.

Tips for cutting

Today I would  like to share with you the way I cut the stripes of Paint Box which I do with Rawya  in the easiest way as possible in my vision.

since I cut every two blocks in the same time, same sizes , multicolored, it takes too much time,I admitted I was confused at   the beginning with my first four blocks .

then I came up with an idea when I displayed paper stripes in order of the way the pattern had to be

I cut the fabrics according to the color and size I want,  and I cover the paper of that stripe

This way I finished and began to sew the first row around the middle square

I found also if I make  no 7 and stripe no 8 bigger than the original size , will give me more space to square my block in the correct size

So I cut no 7 to the long of 6" and to the width of 1 1/2"
and no 8 to the long of 7" and width of 1 1/2"

In the end a happy block with no extra fabric and exact size is ready to wait patiently to be a part of Paint box

Paint Box week 2

Here we are again , week two in Paint Box , but this time with Rawya

Ok 10 blocks a week

And I found this block elegant enough to give it especial shot! why ???

See the chevron edges in the middle square flower matched the tiny ones in the solid  dark blue .

I love the stripe with red flowers a lot, its a piece left over from a dress I sewed 10 years ago , and I have the same but with greens  and orange flowers .

Paint Box- 1

Okay today, Friday, is the finding of our progress in the  project we are doing both me and Rawya , so first 10 blocks are ready.

I was free yesterday so I began to think  of other sewing projects, I think I will make a blouse.

So I fix the pattern over the fabrics and went to eat
grapes .lol!!

See you tomorrow telling you why I am writing this late, and where I spent the day.

Good night.
